Fall 2009 Season we are seeing designers take an innovative approach by applying them to the exterior as an embellishment, rather than just using zippers for interior compartments and top closures. High-end designers are utilizing exterior zippers for decorative purposes, such as Donna Karan’s muti-zipper clutch handbag, and others for both functional and decorative use, like Alexander Wang’s Eniko Gunny Sak hobo handbag. Jimmy Choo takes a classic style and applies an expandable option, as well as an interesting decorative approach with an exterior zipper. And, Christian Louboutin’s Pillow Softy satchel handbag is brilliant in design and details with a diagonal pleating that has three gold tone zippers running through the pleats in the opposite direction. Regardless if the exterior zippers are used for functionality or simply decorative, this look gives a much more edgy appeal to a handbag and it is an interesting trend that may just sustain the test of time.
